Uasin Gishu MCAs Reject All Nominees for the Eldoret City Board

Members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly have unanimously voted to adopt a report by the Committee on Housing and Urban Development, which conducted an approval hearing for 11 individuals who had been nominated to sit on the Eldoret City board.

The committee, chaired by Racecourse MCA Amos Kiptanui, had declined to approve the nominees.

Why Uasin Gishu MCAs rejected Eldoret City board members’ nominees

In the report tabled at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the committee noted that the nomination contravened the Urban Areas and Cities Act, 2022.

The Act provides that the governor, while appointing members of the board, shall ensure gender equity, representation of persons with disabilities, youth and marginalised groups.

In addition, the governor is also required to provide signed minutes of evidence of an accountable process of nomination, evidence of compliance with statutory obligations and a vetting form to establish that a nominee has complied with prescribed criteria for appointment as a board member.

The committee also noted that neither respective associations nor the appointing authority notified nominees of their nominations.

Having concluded the approval hearing for the nominees, the committee recommends that this honourable house do adopt this house without amendments,” read part of the report seen by Uasin Gishu News, which was adopted by the MCAs.

The nominees will be subjected to a fresh vetting process.
