Over a week since form one students started reporting to their respective schools, about 30 per cent of learners that were expected to report are yet to turn out.
Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Harrison Muriuki says they expected 28,447 students to report but so far only 18,174 have reported.
In a media briefing in Eldoret town on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, Muriuki said they have teamed up with the office of the county commissioner in a bid to trace the over 10,000 learners yet to show up to their respective schools.

“We urge parents to take their children to school. Even if they do not have school fees, they can speak to the school management and agree on when the money can be settled,” said the County Director of Education.
Form one students started reporting to form one across the country on February 6, 2023.
The Ministry of Education had allocated last week as the period learners were expected to have reported to the school.
“We are now working with the county commissioner to see whether we can trace the remaining learners,” said the CDE.
Junior Secondary reporting
But while a huge number of students are yet to report to form one, the picture is different for Junior Secondary schools in the county.
Data shared by the County Director of Education indicate that out of the 21,619 students that were expected to report in Grade 7 in public schools, 21,840 have so far turned up.

However, in private Junior Secondary Schools, only 4,121 learners have reported.
6,736 learners were expected to report to the private schools for Grade 7.
“It is about 1,000 students that have not yet joined Grade 7, and we will also try to trace them,” noted Muriuki.
