Uasin Gishu Student who Died in Canada was Mentally Disturbed – Parents

Parents of a student from Uasin Gishu whose body was found floating in a river in Canada have recounted their last moments with him.

The parents say their son might have been battling psychological torture before his mysterious death.

Hellen Limo, mother to the deceased – Brian Kiprop Kiplagat – told journalists that the last time they spoke on phone, he wanted to return to Kenya.

When I communicated with him two weeks ago, I sensed that he was mentally disturbed as he told me that he wanted to be returned back immediately,” the mother revealed.

The 23-year-old student was pursuing a degree in Information Communication Technology (IT) at Winnipeg University, Manitoba in Canada.

Phone soaked in water

According to the mother, the last time she talked with the son, he requested for 300 US dollars to facilitate him purchase a new phone.

He said his phone use soaked in water.

The family that lives in Sogomo, Chepkoilel on the outskirts of Eldoret town says it it yet to come to terms with the death of their son.

I started noticing that there was something wrong with my son when he told me that we should arrange to deport him from Canada,” said the student’s father – Jacob Limo.

He further said the son had confided on him that he was facing discrimination that was affecting his self esteem.

In addition, the deceased also requested for financial support from the family although he was working part-time while continuing with his studies.

The parents however said they understood his situation due to many bills that he had to settle.

Reports of their son’s death was communicated on July 17, 2023, but to date, they are yet to get further information.

A decomposing body of the student was retrieved in a river. Police are yet to release a detailed report concerning the death.

IT Engineer dream

The late Brian Kiprop Kiplagat is said to have turned down joining Kisii University in favour of living his dream of studying in Canada and become an IT Engineer.

He was a former Segero Adventist School student.

My son’s dream to become an IT engineer has been shuttered in a foreign land under unclear circumstances,” the mother emotionally told journalists.

With the body of their son abroad, the family is now requesting for finical support yo transport in back home for burial.
