Uasin Gishu County Executive for Roads, Transport, and Public Works, Engineer Joseph Lagat, on Monday held a departmental meeting to address the recent increase in fire incidents across the county.
Speaking after the meeting, the CECM urged residents to remain vigilant and ensure they have the county emergency numbers in case of any incident.
The county emergency numbers are: 0710646464, 0532061185, or 0706389888.

He further reaffirmed the county’s commitment to responding to such emergencies promptly.
“I would like to urge all residents to be alert during this dry season and report any incidents as quickly as possible so that our team can respond swiftly,” Eng Lagat said.
Fire outbreaks reported in Uasin Gishu in 2024
“Our team has been very effective in responding to fire outbreaks and other incidents. In 2024 alone, we responded to about 43 cases within Uasin Gishu and a total of 8 cases in neighbouring counties,” he added.
Meanwhile, the CECM instructed the team to act quickly to assess the proposed location for a new fire substation in the Moi’s Bridge area.
This follows a recent fire incident at Moi’s Bridge Township that left at least 30 traders counting losses running into millions of shillings.

“We are exploring and mobilizing resources to extend our services to Burnt Forest, Moisbridge, and other upcoming municipalities,” he noted.
Eng. Lagat highlighted that the Uasin Gishu County Government remains a leader in fire and disaster management in the region, boasting superior equipment and assisting neighbouring counties with fire and rescue matters.
In October 2023, Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, EGH, enhanced fire and rescue services by commissioning two water bowsers.
Each has a capacity of 16,000 litres and can also draw water from open sources, eliminating the need to return to the station to refill from the main hydrant.
