URWASCO Board Seeks National Treasury’s Support for Water Infrastructure Upgrades

The Board of Directors of Uasin Gishu County Rural Water and Sanitation Company (URWASCO), on Thursday, February 26, 2026, paid a courtesy call to National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo.

Led by its chairman, Pius Kigen, the board’s visit was to explore avenues for resource mobilisation to upgrade water schemes across Uasin Gishu County.

The discussions centred on securing financial and institutional backing to accelerate water infrastructure development and improve service delivery across all sub-counties.

According to the URWASCO board of directors, the proposed upgrades are expected to boost operational efficiency, expand service coverage, and promote sustainable access to clean and affordable water and sanitation services.

Meanwhile, URWASCO reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating quality water service delivery following a high-level consultative meeting with the Principal Secretary for Water, Julius Korir.

The meeting, led by URWASCO Chairman Pius Kigen, focused on strengthening collaboration between the company and the Ministry to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and long-term impact of water projects, particularly within peri-urban and rural communities.

During the engagement, the Principal Secretary underscored the critical importance of water as a fundamental driver of health, economic growth, and social development.

He pledged full support for URWASCO’s mandate, affirming the Ministry’s commitment to working closely with the company to fast-track key initiatives and address existing service delivery gaps.

Chairman Kigen welcomed the Ministry’s support, noting that strong institutional partnerships are vital to ensuring a reliable, affordable, and sustainable water supply for residents.

URWASCO operates under Nguzo number seven of the Uasin Gishu County development agenda, a pillar that prioritises improved living standards through accessible water and sanitation services.

The framework also underscores environmental sustainability, including promoting a clean and healthy environment and responsible management of natural resources.
