The Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir on Friday, September 4, 2026, inspected the ongoing Kipkaren Dam Water Supply Project, which had previously stalled but has since been successfully re-tendered and is now progressing steadily under a new contractor.
According to PS Korir, the project is currently at an overall 75% complete, reflecting significant progress following the resumption of works.
It entails the completion of a conventional water treatment plant with a capacity of 24,375 m³/day, alongside construction of a rising main and a storage tank.
Upon completion, the Kipkaren Dam Water Supply Project will channel treated water into the existing distribution network, significantly enhancing water supply to residents of Kapseret, Eldoret International Airport, Racecourse, Upper Elgon View and Langas in Uasin Gishu County, as well as Mlango, Lelmokwo and Mosoriot in Nandi County.
The PS commended the progress made and emphasised the need to maintain the current momentum to ensure timely completion and delivery of reliable, quality water services to the targeted communities.
He further said the government remains committed to reviving stalled projects, accelerating implementation and expanding access to reliable water supply as part of efforts to achieve universal water coverage.
