The Eldoret Municipality has requested for more funds to facilitate completion of 64 Stadium.
Town Manager Tito Koiyet last week told a team from the World Bank which is funding the project that it was now at 74 percent complete.
Koiyet said there was need for more funds to be allocated to the project to ensure it is complete.
He made the request in a presentation of the status of Projects that World Bank is funding within the Eldoret Municipality.
Similar sentiments were also shared by Eldoret Municipality Board chairperson Julius Kitur.

“Your support has been so helpful to our society as a Municipality and we request that you continue supporting us,” Kitur said.
International stadium
There are 11 projects that are being funded in the municipality under the Kenya Urban Support Program – 64 Stadium being one of them.
The World Bank had pledged to allocate Ksh1.1 billion for the project that once complete will see the stadium be transformed into a 30-seat capacity international facility.
Construction works started in 2021.
The World Bank representatives under the Kenya Urban Support Program in company of officers from The State Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Council of Governors and the Municipality Officials last week toured the 11 projects funded under Phase 1 KUSP.
During their visit, the Technical Team Leader and head of delegation Beatrice Eraso Puig, Senior Urban Specialist and head of Urban, Resilience and Land, Africa Region, expressed her satisfaction with the identification and implementation of the projects.

“I am impressed with the quality of your projects. Your proposal to serve the affordable housing with infrastructure is also commendable,” said Puig.
On his part, Dr. Konyongo Charles, the Director at the State Department for Housing and Urban Development thanked the team that implemented KUSP 1 and urged for compliance by the Municipality so as to acces funds for the second phase.
KUSP 2
Further, the County Secretary Edwin Bett assured the team of County Government’s total support to ensure all conditions are meant for KUSP 2.
“Just like we gave support in KUSP 1, I assure you that the County Government will support the Municipality to be fully Operational, especially now that we have an establishment ready and as per the requirements under the Urban Area’s and Cities Act 2011,” said Bett.
“I want to appreciate the continued support and request for more especially now that Kenya has been termed as one of the Countries hosting AFCON 2027 and Eldoret has been termed as one of the Hosting Cities as some matches will be played at Kipchoge stadium, your support at the 64 stadium will lift our City as a sport tourism hub,” added Uasin Gishu Trade County Executive Eng Martha Cheruto.
