The county government of Uasin Gishu has handed over the site to the contractor for the second phase of the Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project.
Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development Julius Koech presided over the handover ceremony on April 30, 2025.
Speaking at the event, Koech urged the contractor to move quickly and deliver the project within the stipulated time.
“It is the Vision of the President to deliver the Affordable Housing to the people, as we hand over the site to your team, I call upon you to deliver the project within the agreed time,” the chief officer said
“The law requires that any project within a locality should benefit the local community, and I urge you to employ people from the local community. The supplies of sand and the hire of machinery should be local. This will build the economy of the youths working at the site and grow the status of the upcoming contractors and suppliers from within,” he added.
What Turbo MP said about Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project
On her part, Turbo Member of Parliament Janet Sitienei called upon the contractor to ensure the locals benefit.
“It would be my happiness if the people of Turbo could benefit from this project, both getting employment opportunities and also owning the houses after they have been completed. I urge the contractor to erect a Boma Yangu office at the site that will help my people to come and ask questions and register to own the houses after,” the MP said.

Benard Omondi, who spoke on behalf of the contractor, promised to deliver the project within the time and to work with the local Community.
He said, “The Affordable Housing Program is a Catalyst for economic empowerment, starting from employment opportunities for the youths who will work on site.”
“The support from the Jua Kali industry on the doors and windows and the Community Social Responsibility to the neighbouring school will be a positive impact,” he added.
Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project
The Kidiwa phase 2 is set to see 1,800 housing units erected in the 16-acre piece of land, comprising studios, one-bedroom, 2 bedroom and three-bedroom apartments with a swimming pool and a recreational facility.
So far, out of the 20,000 units projected for Uasin Gishu County, 7,468 are complete with Kidiwa phase 1 at 77% completion.
