The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Saturday, December 17, 2022, hosted and flagged off a team of cyclists riding to the awareness of arthritis, a killer disease affecting the rural population.
While representing Governor Jonathan Bii, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment, Abraham Serem, encouraged the riders and assured them of total support for the noble course that is building a clinic at Ziwa Machine in Soy Sub-County to support residents affected by arthritis.
Also present during the flagging off was the County Executive for Agriculture, Edward Sawe, who noted that the disease affects both the young and old and therefore the need to sensitize the public is important.

The cycling team was led by Thomas Bifuoli who also thanked the Governor for the support.
Arthritis is the swelling and tenderness of one or more joints. The main symptoms of arthritis are joint pain and stiffness, which typically worsen with age. Further, the most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Main cause of arthritis
Most forms of arthritis are thought to be caused by a fault in the immune system that causes the body to attack its own tissues in the joints. This may be inherited genetically.

Other forms of arthritis can be caused by problems with the immune system or by a metabolic condition, such as gout.
Can arthritis be cured?
There is no cure for arthritis. However, the treatment goal is to limit pain and inflammation and preserve joint function. Treatment options include medicines, weight reduction, exercise, and surgery.
