Eldoret town will experience a severe water shortage within the next three months.
According to the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas), the shortage has been occasioned by prolonged drought.
A notice from the company’s Managing Director Peter Kibet Arap Biwott indicates that due to the drought, water levels at the dams that they depend on for processing water.
“This is to let our esteemed clients know that water levels at our dams have declined due to prolonged droughts and hence reduced amounts of water being processed and distributed drastically,” Biwott said in part of the notice.

As a result of the current situation, Eldowas is now asking it’s customers to utilize the little water they will get.
The company that distributes water to customers within the Eldoret municipality further says the situation will only improve once the rainy season starts.
“Due to this, water shortages in Eldoret will be felt for February, March and April 2023 until the rainy season stabilises the situation. We’re sorry for any inconveniences caused during the rationing schedule times,” Eldowas said in the notice issued on February 3, 2023.

Tough times
The latest announcement signals tough times for Eldoret locals that depend on Eldowas water, who will now be forced to bear with an even severe rationing.
Eldowas already rations its water due to a deficit in what it produces compared to the demand.
Meanwhile, the Eldowas MD is asking locals to take care of the available water, aside from preparing for severe rationing.
He however assured that as a company, they are now working on ensuring every customer gets sufficient water.

It’s gonna be severe rationing now henceforth.We are working SMART to ensure you get water enough for a day while we share to other consumers.Thank you for understanding,” said Biwott in a post on his official Twitter handle, when he shared the notice.
