Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) has been recognised internationally for its climate-resilient and sustainable water services.
The company was feted in the Achiever Category of the 2026 International Water Association (IWA) Climate Smart Utilities Recognition Programme, powered by Xylem. The award, which drew participants from 52 countries, was announced during the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition 2026 held in Glasgow, Scotland.
In a statement on Thursday, October 8, 2026, ELDOWAS said the recognition marks a significant milestone in its journey towards climate-resilient and sustainable water and sanitation services.

“From Eldoret to the World! We are proud that we have been recognised in the Achiever Category of the 2026 International Water Association Climate Smart Utilities Recognition Programme, powered by Xylem,” the company said.
“With participation from 52 countries, we made it to the top; this international recognition marks another significant milestone in our journey towards climate-resilient and sustainable water and sanitation services,” it added.
The company said the award reflects its continued commitment to climate adaptation, mitigation and leadership, including its efforts in sustainable water resource management, operational efficiency and catchment conservation through the Eldoret-Iten Water Fund (EIWF).
ELDOWAS also lauded its partners for their support in achieving the feat.
“We extend our appreciation to our partners, The Nature Conservancy in Africa, and Water Funds for Africa for their continued support,” the statement read.

The Glasgow congress brought together leading water utilities from across the globe to celebrate innovation and leadership in climate-smart water management.
The recognition places ELDOWAS among top-performing utilities globally at a time when water companies are grappling with climate change, growing demand and the need for sustainable resource management.
