Construction of New Roads Continues in Uasin Gishu

County’s Department of Roads, Transport and Public Works played a crucial role in ensuring all road networks and other infrastructural projects within Eldoret town were well maintained to serve their purpose for the success of the just concluded 2023 8th Devolution Conference.

The conference held at the Eldoret Sports Club was officially opened by President William Ruto.

It was attended by more than 10,000 international and local delegates.

In November 2022, Governor Jonathan Bii had launched a new program to open new roads and improve the state of the existing ones in all the 30 county wards.

As the team of Engineers led by County Executive for Roads Eng. Joseph Lagat and Chief Officer Eng. Abraham Kiptalam continues to implement the projects, residents in the identified areas have continued to express their gratitude to Governor Bii’s administration.

Highlight of the projects

The projects include the construction of new box culverts, bridges, culverts as well as grading and graveling.

Among the ongoing works is the raising of the impassible roads in the informal settlement areas of Langas Jabine Village in Langas Ward, Kapseret Sub-County,

There is also drainage improvement and protection works on Matunda-Lamaiywet Road in Kapkures Ward, Soy Sub County and the ongoing construction of Ketiplong-Bindura Box culvert in Tulwet/Chuiyat ward, Kesses Sub County among others.

Dan Wainaina, a businessman at Mwanzo estate and a resident of Kiplombe ward, Turbo Sub County recalls that in the past, accessing markets, social amenities and transporting farm produce had been a big challenge to them for many years.

But currently, they able to transport their goods and services to ready markets, courtesy of the opening of new roads by the current administration.

Locals further say the projects have cushioned them from huge losses that had been occasioned by the dilapidated state of the road network in the past.
