Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Eng. John Barorot has challenged the contractor who is set to begin the construction of the Ksh450 million Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Cherunya, Langas Ward to meet the set timelines and deliver quality works.
Speaking on Thursday when he hosted officers from the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) on the terms and requirements for the contract as well as handing over of the project, the Deputy Governor emphasized the need for the contractor to complete the works on time adding the project will see a huge number of youth employed.
“We are confident with this project because it will help us, especially on matters of employment. We have a serious issue with unemployment in our county and this project is an opportunity to enhance the opportunity to the public,” he said.
Eng. Barorot also noted that: “I am looking forward to seeing this project somewhere when we will be receiving our city charter status in June. Some visible work has to be done so that before we receive the charter, we commemorate this project that we are handing over to you today.”
The project is expected to attract export-oriented investors keen on value addition and other value chains purposely for export.
Chief Officer for Trade Geoffrey Tanui said the project is crucial to the county assuring the agency that the administration will do everything possible to fast-track all the requirements needed by the contractor.
“We are very excited as a department that this project is going to begin as we have waited for it quite long,” added Tanui.
Directors Isaac Lagat (Trade) and Irene Kapting’ei (Industrialization) were among those present during the meeting.
