Details of Petitions against First Choice, County Scholarship Program

/

The Uasin Gishu County Assembly ad hoc committee is preparing to start investigating First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy as well as the County Scholarship Program.

This is following two petitions that were submitted by locals over claims of money swindling involving the Eldoret-based recruitment agency and the County initiative.

Last week, the County Assembly approved the two petitions, after they were found to have met the threshold. Later, an ad hoc committee was formed, following a motion moved by the leader of the majority Julius Sang and seconded by the leader of the minority Francis Muya.

As the committee prepares to start its probe, some of the details of the two petitions have now been revealed.

The petitions were filed by Gishu locals.

In the first petition, the petitioners accuse First Choice Recruitment and Consultancy of swindling hundreds of locals from not only Uasin Gishu, but also across the North Rift region through fake jobs recruitment to Qatar.

The petitioners claim despite paying up to Ksh40,000 for the job, many never secured jobs in the county currently hosting the World Cup.

It is estimated that at least 4,000 youths were conned by the agency into the alleged fake job.

Deportation

In the second petition, it has been claimed that some of the students who were beneficiaries of the County Scholarships program in Finland are on the verge of being deported while others have not received placements even after paying huge sums of money.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu has an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a number of Finish institutions. The MoUs were signed during former Governor Jackson Mandago’s reign.

The petitioners are asking the County Assembly to get to the bottom of the matter and ensure justice is served for the victims.

The Committee is expected to table its report before the Uasin Gishu County Assembly within the next one month.

Meanwhile, the Uasin Gishu County Assembly has adjourned for a long recess in line with its calendar.

The report of the two petitions will now be handled once the MCAs resume.
