Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has commissioned the construction of a 2,000-bed Multi-Speciality Hospital project.
Speaking at the event held at the project’s site in Kiplombe on the outskirts of Eldoret City, Duale said it is expected to take 18 months.
The hospital will be put up on 200 acres and is part of an initiative to increase access to tertiary and super-speciality care services across the country.

Duale said the project is part of the government’s plan to enhance Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by offering more specialist care outside Nairobi.
“This is one of the most transformative investments that our country has seen in the healthcare sector. This facility will provide expertise in super-specialities such as cardiology, oncology, trauma, transplantation, rehabilitation, paediatrics, and reproductive health,” he said.
According to Duale, the hospital is meant to serve the locals within the region and those from other neighbouring nations.
The new hospital is supposed to interface with other referral hospitals within the nation, including Kenyatta National Hospital, Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital, and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
What will the new MTRH project entail?
As part of the development impact, the project shall involve new road construction, new water lines, and increased electricity supply to cater to the huge project.

Duale said the relevant ministries are expected to complete all link roads by the end of next year and ensure the timely connection of electricity as well as water to the project.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will supervise the construction of the project to ensure discipline, safety, and timelines are adhered to.
The CS also appreciated the role played by the MTRH Board and management, which he said have been involved in the project from the conceptual stage to the groundbreaking stage.
The hospital will also be integrated into digital referral and supply chain networks to enhance its efficiency once it is put into operation.
