Eldoret: 26-Year-Old Mother Kills Son, Attempts To Kill Daughter, Self Over ‘Stress’

Locals in the Generations area within Lower West Indies Estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town have been left in shock after a mother of two stabbed to death her two-year-old son.

The mother identified as Cristabel Chebet, 26, had also attempted to kill her six-year-old daughter and unsuccessfully tried to take her own life.

According to Chebet, she decided to commit the heinous act due to stress and depression in her life.

I have never wanted bad things to happen to anybody and I have been living with my children well… but because of the stress that I had, nobody listened to me,” she told journalists.

Because I had stress and depression, I did not have the intention to kill my children..it is only that I never had someone to listen to me,” she added.

Family issues

The mother who has since been arrested has asked for forgiveness for killing her son and attempting to end the life of her daughter.

It is believed the woman’s decision was from family issues that she had been battling with.

She notes that her husband never loved her children, who she had prior to being married.

Niliona kuliko watoto wateseke heri nikufe nao. Mzee alikua anapenda watoto wake peke yake,” she added.

Grace Anyango, a Nyumba Kumi member in Lower West Indies says the incident happened at around 7 AM on Monday.

She notes that the family has been having problems for several months now.

We saw the father running away with a child and when we went to inquire from the house what was happening, we found the mother had killed her son and another, a daughter was bleeding,” Anyango said.

The daughter has since been admitted to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) where she is receiving treatment.

Police have also launched a probe into the incident.
