Governor Jonathan Bii has hailed Uasin Gishu locals for maintaining peace despite violent protests witnessed in Eldoret town on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
In a statement issued late in the day, Bii said the locals had demonstrated remarkable restraint and unity.
“Together, we have proved that peace is our greatest strength and the foundation of lasting progress,” the governor said.
His statement was however contrary to events witnessed in Eldoret town.
A group of protesting Gen Z flashed with baton-wielding individuals who had allegedly being hired to counter the protests.
Police had to at some point forced to fire teargas to contain the situation.

A police vehicle was also torched within the Huruma area and an attempt to loot Khetias Supermarket at Roadblock thwarted by the police.
At least one person was killed in Eldoret during the protests with a police officer also sustaining serious head injury.
Despite all these happenings, Governor Bii insisted Eldoret and Uasin Gishu County was largely peaceful.
“This spirit continues to inspire confidence in our business community and safeguard an environment where enterprise thrives,” the county boss said.
“Let us continue moving forward as one exercising our rights with dignity, respecting the law, and upholding harmony in all our communities,” he added.
