The government has released and official figure for the number of people who died following the Saturday, November 1, 2025, landslides Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen flew to the area to lead rescue and search efforts.
The landslides affected several villages in Endo, Sambirir and Embobut wards in Kerio Valley Sub-County.
How many people died in Kerio Valley landslides?
In a media briefing on Saturday afternoon in Chesongoch area, Murkomen said 21 people had been confirmed dead.

Several others were rescued trapped inside the mud, with 25 of them, who had serious injuries, already airlifted to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County for medical attention.
In addition, Murkomen said at least 30 people remain unaccounted for.
“We have managed to evacuate 25 injured people for further medical attention. Sadly, 21 people lost their lives in this unfortunate tragedy, while 30 people are still unaccounted for,” the CS said.
Who are involved in rescue efforts in Kerio Valley?
He also revealed that ongoing search and rescue efforts are being undertaken by a multi-agency team comprising the military, police, National Government Officers (NGAO), the county government and humanitarian organizations.

“We have moved households at risk of landslides to safer grounds and opened a desk for reporting missing persons,” Murkomen noted.
The landslide affected were as a result of heavy rainfall on the area.
Several roads to the area were cut off, forcing rescuers to access the areas.
Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu county machinery were deployed to fix affected sections of the roads.
