Elgeyo Marakwet County Releases Ksh 73 Million Bursary for Over 7,000 Needy Learners

Over 7,000 needy students in Elgeyo Marakwet are set to benefit from a bursary allocation from the county.

Governor Wisely Rotich on Friday, June 5, 2026, officially handed over cheques worth Ksh 73 million to schools, colleges and universities whose students benefited from the county bursary allocation.

Rotich noted that a delay in disbursement followed prolonged consultations with the Controller of Budget. The allocation will benefit 7,284 students.

This brings the total bursary funds paid over the past four years to Ksh 321 million, with 28,972 beneficiaries,” the county boss said.

The bursary funds will ensure that students, regardless of their background, access equal education and that completion rates increase. Meanwhile, capitation enhances pupil and student enrollment and retention in schools,” he added.

In addition, Governor Rotich said Ksh 25 million and Ksh 28 million were disbursed as capitation to Elgeyo Marakwet Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres, respectively. The funds will benefit 1,217 VTC students and 27,400 ECDE pupils.

According to the governor, from 2023 to date, his administration has disbursed Ksh 320,967,898 to 28,972 students in secondary schools (junior and senior), VTCs, TVETs, colleges and universities.
