Espodec-Muhoroni Starlets Start Women Regional League Campaign with A Win

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Upper Rift Women Regional League officially kicked off over the weekend in Eldoret town.

The launch of the new 2023/2024 season of the league was held at Uasin Gishu Primary School Grounds.

In one of the matches, Espodec-Muhoroni Starlets secured their first win, edging out Nandi-based Terik Ladies’ Foundation FC 3-1 in an entertaining encounter.

Goals from the hosts were scored by Mary Nekesa, Pauline Nekesa and Shanaz Nelinda.

Espodec’s coach Maurice Kamau is hopeful the team will perform better than last season, and hopefully win the trophy at the end of the season.

Last season, the Langas-based team, which has been renamed Espodec-Muhoroni Starlets due to the agreement it has with Muhoroni FC finished at number 3, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Division One League.

Kakuma Kalobeyei and Kapsabet Starlets who finished first and second in the league respectively were promoted to the FKF Women Division One League.

They are playing in the league’s Zone D this season.

In an earlier match played at the same venue, University of Eldoret (UOE) Queens narrowly edged out Huruma Fire Angels 1-0.

The 2023/2024 season for the FKF Upper Rift Women League has 17 teams, drawn from Uasin Gishu and Nandi Counties.

Among the teams participating in the league include Ndabarnach Queens, Flyway Queens, Maendeleo Queens, Hannah Queens, Boma Ladies, Huruma Starlets and Kipkaren Youth FC.

Others are Kabwereng’ Queens, Blue Starlets, Kapsabet Junior Starlets, Huruma Queens, St. Josephs Starlets, Delegebet Starlets and Huruma Fire Angles.
