ESPODEC Starlets Force a Draw against UOE Queens in Women’s Regional League Opener

ESPODEC Starlets secured a crucial point of their rivals UOE Queens in their opening FKF Upper Rift Women’s Regional League opening match played over the weekend.

Despite the match ending in a barren draw, the Langas-based side were happy with the results having played a huge part of the game one player less. This is after their goalkeeper was shown a red card in the 48th minute.

The draw leaves ESPODEC Starlets 6th on the table having played only one game while UOE Queens are second with 4 points. They have already played three games.

In other results for matches played over the weekend, Joyland Starlets beat Ndabarnach Queens 2-0 while Kiplaren Starlets walloped City Angels 10-0 in front of their home fans at Bishop Delaney Memorial.

League leaders Santa Queens secured their second win in a row after silencing Maroon Queens 2-0 in a game played at Cheptongei Grounds.

Santa Queens tops the Upper Rift Women’s League table with 6 points after two games with UOE Queens sitting second with 4 points.

Third on the log are Kipkaren Starlets followed by Highland Royals and Joyland Starlets all at three points after one game each.

The league continues next weekend with more matches scheduled.

Last week, ESPODEC Starlets coach Maurice Kamau told Uasin Gishu News that the team is targeting promotion this year after narrowly missing out last season.

They recently received a morale booster after businesswoman Chemutai Kurgat joined them as club patron.

Chemutai is the owner of Chemu’s Ankara, a clothes and beauty business that has shops in Eldoret (Kipkenyo), Nairobi and Mombasa.
