The government has unveiled the official calendar of national days and other major events to be observed across Kenya in 2026, outlining host counties and thematic priorities for the year.
In a circular dated April 14, 2026, from the Executive Office of the President, Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, the government directed all ministries, departments, and agencies to prepare for the commemorations aimed at strengthening national unity and identity.
The communication cites Article 9 of the Constitution, which recognizes national days as important occasions to promote cohesion and patriotism.
It further instructs that the celebrations be organized both nationally and within designated host counties.
Which counties will host 2026 Labour Day, Madaraka celebrations?
According to the schedule, Labour Day will be marked in Vihiga County while Madaraka Day celebrations will be in Wajir County under the theme “Education, Skills and the Future.”
The annual Ocean Conference, set for June 16–18 and will be jointly hosted by Mombasa and Kilifi counties.
Later in the year, Katiba Day, commemorated on August 27 will be in Nairobi.
Mazingira Day will be observed in Trans Nzoia County, while Mashujaa Day celebrations will take place in Elgeyo-Marakwet County.
Jamhuri Day, marking Kenya’s independence, will be held in Kiambu County.

The calendar concludes with Minorities Day on December 18 in Marsabit County.
The government has tasked the Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination office, alongside the Ministries of Defence, Interior, and the National Treasury, with coordinating preparations in collaboration with relevant state departments.
Officials say the structured rotation of host counties is intended to promote inclusivity, regional development, and national integration through shared celebrations.
