Renowned Kenyan middle and long-distance runner Faith Chepng’etich Kipyegon has been nominated by the University of Eldoret for the prestigious Honorary Doctorate in Education.
The university recognized her outstanding contributions to athletics and her ability to inspire young people through her dedication and perseverance.
Kipyegon, the reigning world champion in the 1,500 meters, has had a remarkable career. She most notably achieved world records in the 1,500 meters and the mile in 2023. Her dominant performances made her the first athlete to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1,500 meters.
“Ms. Kipyegon is an accomplished middle and long-distance runner and is the reigning 1,500-meter and Mile World Record holder,” noted the public notice.
During the 2023 season, Kipyegon set two world records within just 49 days—first in the 1,500 meters and then in the mile—solidifying her place among the all-time greats of athletics.
“Faith has been nominated for the World Athlete of the Year 2024,” the notice further highlighted, acknowledging her continued excellence and prominence on the global stage.

The University of Eldoret’s decision to honour Kipyegon with an Honorary Doctorate in Education reflects her influence beyond the track, particularly in inspiring future generations. Her honorary degree will be conferred during the institution’s 13th Graduation Ceremony, scheduled for November 21, 2024.
Kipyegon’s incredible career serves as an inspiration to both athletes and students, and this recognition by the University of Eldoret celebrates her as a role model in both sports and education.
