For years, Linus Rono, 35, woke up knowing the day would hurt.
For the young man from Kaptuiyot village, Megun Ward, Kapseret constituency, digging holes for coffee seedlings and fence posts meant hours under the sun with a jembe, blisters, and a back that ached long after dark.
On Thursday, July 23, 2026, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi shared how that story changed.
Sudi shared that when he met Linus, the young man made one simple request: “Help me get a petrol-powered earth auger.”
Sudi got it for him and today, that one machine has done more than speed up work. It gave Linus his time back. It gave him dignity. And it gave four other people a job.
“What was once manual, slow and exhausting work has become faster and more reliable,” Sudi wrote on his Facebook page.
“Linus now uses it to dig coffee holes and to sink posts for fencing,” he added.
The change didn’t stop at Linus’s shamba. Word spread. Neighbors needed holes dug. Farmers needed fencing done fast. The calls kept coming. So Linus did what he never thought possible a year ago. He hired help.
From working alone, he now leads a small team of four. Five families in Megun Ward now depend on that single auger for steady income.
“From doing everything alone, he now runs a small team that earns a steady income serving the community,” the MP said.
For the people of Kaptuiyot, it’s more than a machine. It’s proof that when a young person gets the right tool, one request can turn into livelihoods for an entire corner of the village.
