The rapid growth of Eldoret City since it was awarded City status in August 2024 has triggered major housing investments, with two key Affordable Housing Projects now nearing completion.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo says the projects are part of the Government’s response to rising demand for decent and affordable housing in the country’s fifth city.
The first, the Pioneer Affordable Housing Project, is now substantially complete, with works entering the final phase including landscaping, installation of cabro-paved roads and walkways, swimming pools and lifts.
How many residential blocks are at Pioneer Affordable Housing project?
According to PS Omollo, the development comprises 15 residential blocks with 2,148 housing units, complemented by 104 shops, a supermarket, clinic, kindergarten and recreational facilities including a clubhouse, swimming pool, basketball court and children’s play areas.

The project also incorporates integrated waste-management systems. Its construction has created jobs for local residents and stimulated businesses in the surrounding area.
“The Pioneer Affordable Housing Project is part of the Government’s response, expanding access to quality homes while supporting the city’s orderly and sustainable growth,” Omollo said.
Kidiwa Affordable Housing project
The second project, the Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project, officially registered as Kapsuswa Estate AHP, is located in Soy Constituency.
Launched by President William Ruto in January 2024 under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), the project occupies 3.2 acres and comprises nine residential blocks with 220 units – 60 studios, 40 one-bedroom, 100 two-bedroom and 20 three-bedroom apartments.
The project is now complete and awaiting commissioning and occupancy.

“Kenya’s growing urban spaces must be matched by infrastructure that befits their new stature. Cities need the shiny glitters of modern development to complement their growth, and the completed Kidiwa Affordable Housing Project is part of that transformation,” Omollo said, noting that it brings a clean, modern and attractive residential community to the expanding city.
PS Omollo said the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has supported both projects by working with local administration, communities and other stakeholders to maintain a secure and orderly environment.
“The State Department continues to work with local administration and communities to support safety and orderly development, helping create a secure environment for residents, businesses and investment,” he said.
He added that the Department’s support has helped create the conditions necessary for investment and successful project delivery.
