The Kenyan government has announced plans to position the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) as a centre of excellence for producing health workers that are responsive to the country and global needs in terms of service delivery.

The announcement was made by Dr Josephine Mburu, the Principal Secretary, of the State Department for Health Standards and Professional Management during a familiarization tour of the KMTC Nairobi Campus.

Dr Mburu commended the college for its simulation laboratory and the Centre for English Training, noting that they are a testament to the government’s commitment to improving health human resources training.

She urged the college’s management to entrench a culture of professionalism in training and explore the possibility of establishing a virtual campus to offer courses that do not require practicals.

The PS also praised the Simulation Lab as a great innovation and stated that the government is considering decentralizing the labs to offer continuous professional development points on critical skills like advanced life support, advanced cardiac life support, and advanced trauma life support.

KMTC’s role as a centre of excellence for health worker training is a key component of the government’s efforts to improve the country’s healthcare system.
