Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has hit the ground running as he seeks to deliver on his campaign pledges.
Among the key pledges that Chelilim made was in the Health Sector.
And to ensure he delivers what he promised, especially in the supply of drugs to county facilities, the county boss has already visited the county stores, where drugs from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) are first stored before being distributed to health facilities.

He has also visited the Uasin Gishu County Hospital in Eldoret town.
The hospital should have been one of the best among county health facilities but its state, Governor Bii admits, is not at par with its expected standards.
“We are seeing the facility has old structures,” the governor said when he visited it.
But as he takes over the leadership, he is pledging to give it a facelift.
“Going forward we want to build a modern facility,” he noted.

But not everything was below Bii’s expectations at the Uasin Gishu County Hospital. He was impressed with the fact that it has cancer equipment that serves pregnant mothers.
Staff motivation
Aside from giving their should-be county hospital a facelift, the Uasin Gishu governor says he will also be focusing on the motivation of health workers.
He argues that a happy workforce is a key to improved services to the people.
“We also want to see to it that our staff – we have had talks of unhappy staff – we will see how to motivate them. Those on permeant terms and contract, we will review their positions and try to ensure the medical staff have a good working environment,” said the county boss popularly known as Koti Moja.

Further, the governor said he will work on employing more health workers in a move he hopes will enhance locals’ access to quality healthcare.
