When Vision Becomes Reality: How Governor Jonathan Bii Is Positioning Uasin Gishu for Greatness

By Dr Philip Zeal Chebunet

There is a principle of life: a seed is judged by the harvest it produces. Leadership is not measured by the size of speeches, but by the transformation that touches the lives of the people. Every opportunity given to a leader comes with a responsibility to serve, build, and leave behind a legacy that speaks beyond a season.

Under the leadership of Governor Jonathan Bii, Uasin Gishu County is witnessing a renewed focus on development, investment, and economic empowerment. The vision is clear: to move the county from potential to productivity, from resources to value addition, and from promises to tangible results.

Eldoret City: A New Platform for Growth

The elevation of Eldoret to city status is a major milestone that provides a new platform for growth, investment, and regional competitiveness. A city is not just a name; it is a responsibility to create an environment where businesses thrive, opportunities expand, and residents enjoy improved services.

Through strategic partnerships, including Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), the county is expanding modern infrastructure such as street lighting to enhance security, support businesses, and create a more vibrant urban environment. Plans to improve streets through cabro paving are part of creating a cleaner, more attractive, and investment-friendly county.

Industrialisation and Value Addition

The future of Uasin Gishu lies in moving from production of raw materials to value addition. Investments and initiatives such as agricultural processing in Moiben, coffee milling in Jua Kali, animal feeds production in Cheptiret, and attracting private investors for avocado processing in Mugundoi demonstrate a commitment to industrialisation, job creation, and economic transformation.

Agriculture remains the heartbeat of the county’s economy. The coffee revival agenda, including supporting farmers with seedlings and promoting value chains, is aimed at empowering farmers and ensuring that agriculture becomes a stronger pathway to wealth creation.

Investing in People and Infrastructure

A great society invests in its people. The confirmation of Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers to permanent and pensionable terms and support for school nutrition programmes demonstrate a commitment to strengthening education and investing in the next generation.

Economic empowerment remains central to the county agenda. Through cooperatives, enterprise development programmes, affordable credit initiatives, and support for traders and entrepreneurs, more residents are being connected to opportunities that can improve livelihoods.

Infrastructure is the foundation of development. Road improvement programmes, including murram works across the county, are opening rural areas, connecting farmers to markets, and ensuring that development reaches more communities.

From Noise to Legacy

In every season of leadership, voices of support and criticism will always exist. However, history has a way of separating promises from performance. The true measure of leadership is the impact left behind — the projects completed, opportunities created, and lives transformed.

Noise has a season, but impact has a legacy. A vision backed by action becomes a testimony. Uasin Gishu is not only being managed; it is being positioned for a future of growth, investment, and enterprise.
