Kenya Association of Manufactures (KAM) on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Agrochemicals Association of Kenya (AAK) to support the establishment and running of the Kenya Hazardous Waste Producer Responsible Organization (KEHAPRO) Initiative.
The initiative shall focus on managing hazardous product packaging, including industrial chemicals, oil, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, veterinary, cosmetics, paints, and solvents.
Further, KAM in collaboration with AAK will establish an effective, efficient, and systematic forum for constant consultation, cooperation, and the exchange of information affecting manufacturers related to hazardous products packaging waste management, says KAM acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tobias Alando.

“The discourse on proper waste management continues to centre day-to-day conversations in Kenya. As an Association, we are committed to managing solid waste, in particular, plastics as we encourage the adoption of a circular economy,” Alando added.
“This is not just about signing an MoU, it is the beginning of a journey towards sustainability. As we look into sustainable ways of production, we also need to look at how we are going to add value to the industry going forward. Part of our commitment to sustainability is creating awareness on the importance of producing safe food for Kenya’s growing population,” added Agrochemicals Association of Kenya CEO, Eric Kimunguyi.
The MoU is part of #uKAMilifu, KAM’s Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) arm, under the Green World pillar which seeks to restore and replenish the environment in industry’s approach.
