Journalism students at the Eldoret National Polytechnic will now be doing their class practical at the Eldoret Media Hub.
This follows a Memorandum of Understating that was on Monday signed between the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association and the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) approved institution based in Eldoret town.
Uasin Gishu Journalists Association is a group of practicing journalists based in Eldoret town working for various media houses spread across the country.
The association has a Media Hub, used by the Journalists as a working space, as it is equipped with a voice recording studio, cameras among others.
Speaking during the MoU signing at the institution’s main campus, Uasin Gishu Journalists Association chairperson James Gitaka said the partnership will also involve mentoring of the Journalism students at the polytechnic.
“This is an MoU if its kind and we’re hoping that through the collaboration we will see to it that the students are well polished and ready for the industry,” said Gitaka, who is also the Milele FM and Kameme FM reporter in Uasin Gishu County.
The Eldoret National Polytechnic Chief Principal Josphat Sawe on his part said the MoU will see the Journalism students at the institution perform their practicals at the Eldoret Media Hub.
“We have assessed the equipped that the association has and we shall be ready to use them time to time – for training purposes. The purpose and objective of this MoU are to assist our students to perform their practice in the studio of journalists,” Sawe noted.
“We’re happy to enter into this MoU as it helps students in practical. We shall continue partnering together,” he added.
