Jua Kali Worker Using Posters to Spread Peace Messages In Uasin Gishu

A peace actor in Uasin Gishu County has devised a unique way of sensitizing members of the public within Eldoret town on the need to remain peaceful before, during and after the upcoming general election.

Daniel Ndung’u, a Jua Kali artisan says he has been moving around Eldoret town, putting up posters containing peace messages, targeted at the locals.

Ndung’u notes that his aspirations to ensure a peaceful election are based on past experiences that have seen the country witness violence after every election period.

It has come to my notice that after every five years, we are driven by ethnic, tribal and parties indifferences due to elections.” said the peace actor.

He also called on religious leaders, political candidates, youths and residents of Uasin Gishu County to join his campaign for togetherness during this election period.

Ndung’u further revealed that he has organized a rally as part of his peace preaching campaign.

The rally, he noted, will be held at Huruma Grounds, with political candidates, members of the public and religious leaders expected to take part.

We are coming to the outside world, the politicians and residents, let us join together on this peaceful rally. When we do it in action, we are going to remove this dilemma of uncertainty every five years,” he said.

High-risk counties

With the August 9 poll just under a month away, there have been sustained efforts from various stakeholders to enhance peace and cohesion among various communities.

Uasin Gishu has been among the targeted counties, following a report by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) which listed it among high-risk counties for election-related violence.

Other counties in the same category are Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Kericho.
