Kabarak University, Gideon Moi Asked To Start ‘Nyayo Marathon’

The family of former President the late Daniel Moi as well as Kabarak University has been challenged to consider starting a marathon.

Kabarak University is run by the Moi family – and is considered one of the prestigious private universities in the county.

According to Michael Kirwa, a resident in Uasin Gishu, the marathon will be in memory of the country’s second President.

In a letter to former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, son to the former President, Kirwa proposes that the marathon be named – Nyayo Marathon – in honor of the Nyayo Philosophy that the late President initiated.

The Eldoret resident further wants marathoner Eliud Kipchoge to help in planning for the event.

Marathon logistics

I am a Kenyan citizen patriot and champion for the Nyayo Philosophy of Love, Peace and Unity of the nation. Therefore, I am indeed humble to appoint and request Eliud Kipchoge (World Marathon Champion) to assist the family for the marathon logistics and proposal of the Kabarak Eldoret – the Flying Stadium,” Kirwa says in part of the letter seen by Uasin Gishu News.

In addition, he has proposed that the Nyayo Marathon be held annually on Valentine’s Day.

Finally, the Nyayo Marathon Event will take place on the following suggested date: (02/02, 14/02 Valentine Day Marathon or 24/04) yearly starting from year 2024,” Kirwa alias Waziri Bila Kazi said in the letter.

Moreover, he points out that the proposed Nyayo Marathon will serve as a commemoration of the late Moi’s 24 years of legacy.

“The will event also market Kabarak University intakes across the year and serve as a dedication to all students at the institution,” Kirwa said.

The University is owned by the Moi Family.

Moi served the country for 24 years after taking over following the death of the first President the late Jomo Kenyatta in 1978.

He handed over power in 2002 to the third President the late Mwai Kibaki.
