The National Parents Association is now asking President-elect William Ruto to consider retaining Education CS Prof. Gorge Magoha in his administration.

Association’s national chairman Nicholas Maiyo says this will help ensure a smooth transition of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

And the first batch of the Junior Secondary School (JSS) learners are set to join in January 2023 under CBC and the parents say the current CS is the best person to oversee the transition.

As parents chair, I want to call upon the president-elect to retain the CS Education with his staff to ensure that there is a smooth transition to junior secondary,” said Maiyo.

Further, the national parents’ association chairperson cautions that by recruiting a new CS in the education docket, it will be hard for him or her to continue with the transition process.

Some of the children are about to transition from grade six to junior secondary and parents are pleading with the incoming president to increase his (Magoha) term by at least one or two years. This will not tamper with the progress of CBC because it hugely depends on its founders for it to be successful,” noted Maiyo.

What CBC entails

The government has been rolling out the new CBC system since 2017.

Under the new curriculum, learners spent two years of pre-primary, three years of lower primary and three years of upper primary.

Further, there are three years of lower secondary, three years of senior secondary and three years of tertiary education (2-6-3-3).

It replaces 8-4-4 which was introduced into the country in 1985.

But even as they call for the retention of CS Magoha, the parents’ boss congratulated the President-elect for being elected as the 5th president of the Republic of Kenya.

On behalf of parents across the country, we congratulate president-elect William Ruto on his election as Kenya`s 5th president. We know he is up to the task and we are sure he will transform the country. We wish him well in his endeavours,” Maiyo said.
