First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto has called for stronger early detection systems for newborns, saying timely screening can prevent lifelong health complications.
The first lady spoke during a State Visit to Finland, where she toured Revvity, a diagnostics company specializing in newborn screening technologies.
She said the visit exposed her to innovations that identify serious health conditions shortly after birth.

“Early diagnosis can make the difference between a lifetime of health challenges and a healthy start to life,” Mrs Ruto noted in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
According to the First Lady, the company showcased diagnostic tools that enable timely intervention and treatment for infants.
She added that “The visit offered valuable insights into how innovation in healthcare can improve child survival, reduce the burden of disease, and give every child the best possible start in life.”

In addition, Mrs Ruto said lessons from the visit will support Kenya’s ongoing efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
She emphasized that strengthening early detection systems is key to building healthier families and communities.
The First Lady is in Finland as part of President William Ruto’s delegation for the State Visit aimed at boosting Kenya-Finland cooperation in health, trade and technology.
