The government has announced a fresh operation in the North Rift region aimed at flashing out Criminal elements.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the operation will target specific areas which have in the recent last witnessed incidences of banditry.
Murkomen singled out Kainuk at the border of West Pokot and Turkana Counties where the comprehensive operation will target.

He however noted that the government has made significant progress in restoring leave and normal live in most parts of the kerio Valley.
“There are, however, areas where we need to do more to eradicate acts of banditry and weed out criminal elements trying to take us back,” Murkomen said after touring Kainuk on Monday, February 2, 2026.
“We are rolling out a comprehensive operation in the area, which will include disarmament and apprehension of perpetrators and their sponsors,” he added.

But as the government work on the comprehensive operation, the CS called on politicians from the two counties to desist from inflammatory statements and urge residents to remain calm.
The Kerio Valley region has for years faced security challenges due to regular incidences of banditry.
