The visitors were first to strike through Peninah Nyatich’s goal, taking the match to the break with a lead. Moments into the second half, the Starlets doubled their lead through Snaida Shitakule.

However, Gene got one back through Stella Kine’s close-range shot before getting an equalizer through Janeclaire Egesa’s free-kick five minutes to stoppage time.

Fatigue

Gideons Starlets captain Narcel Adhiambo attributed the draw to fatigue brought by long-distance travel.

We played well in the first half and got tired deep in the match as the scorching sun got into us. We felt the effects of travel fatigue that made us concede after taking an early lead,” she said.

Gene queens captain Sofia Wabukhe however applauded her colleagues for staging a brave performance to salvage a draw.

We started in a low tone. Our opponents dominated the play but I congratulate my teammates for fighting through to a draw,” she said.

In other matches in Kisumu, Kolwa Falcons beat Kimathi Lionesses 5-0 while Kakamega’s Nyuki lost to Kitale-based Royal Starlets 2-0.
