Kitale Bishop Concerned with Rising Political Intolerance, Hate Speech

African Inland Church (AIC) Kitale Area Church Council Bishop Benjamin Tarus has raised a red flag over rising political intolerance in the country.

Bishop Tarus challenged relevant state agencies to address the situation before it escalates into unmanageable levels.

Speaking at AIC Nuru Church in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Bishop Tarus called on politicians across the political divide not to incite Kenyans on the basis of their ethnicity and political parties affiliation.

The man of God further said the rising tension especially in Trans Nzoia County is not good for the stability of the cosmopolitan devolved unit.

We are concerned and worried at the same time with what we are seeing in Trans Nzoia and the rest of the country where politicians are actively inciting their followers against their perceived rivals. This should be contained as soon as possible for the sake of development and economic transformation of Kenya,” Bishop Tarus said.

The soft spoken Bishop also called on other religious leaders in the country to be crusaders of peace and unity.

He added that AIC church is ready and willing to broker truce between the government and the opposition.

We have a responsibility as religious leaders to promote peace and counter any person who plants seeds of discord a head of 2027 elections,” he added.

He took his time to urge drivers and other road users to observe traffic rules to avert dangerous road accidents.

His message was echoed by Trans Nzoia County traffic police boss Evans Nyakundi who revealed shocking statistics of the number of people who have perished through road accidents in the last three months.

How many have died in Trans Nzoia due to road accident?

From January 1 to March 31, 2025, a total of 35 people have perished through road accidents. 15 of them are boda boda riders. Thes numbers are worrying. In 2024 there were 58 casualties,” Nyakundi stated.

The traffic police commander said all drivers flouting traffic rules will be dealt with accordingly.

We have a duty to protect people’s life’s and property. As traffic police officers, we are on very alert and we will deal with all traffic law breakers ruthlessly and decisively. They should therefore comply,” Nyakundi warned.

He further said that speed cameras have been introduced in major roads. He also said that alcoblow machines have been introduced to detect drunk drivers.

You are allowed to celebrate but you should never endanger the lives of other Kenyans in the name of enjoying yourself,” said Nyakundi.
