Three sons of a prominent large-scale farmer in Kundos farm, Endebess Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, are nursing machete-inflicted injuries on their heads.
The three (Abraham Saina, Job Saina, and Meshach Saina) were attacked by hooligans hired by a man who claimed ownership of a half-acre piece of land in the middle of 120 acres.
How James Saina’s sons were attacked
Narrating the Thursday morning gruesome ordeal, Meshach Saina said James Laban, the claimant, arrived at their farm in the company of around 40 goons in the morning, demarcated the said piece of land, and claimed that he bought it from one of the daughters of Mr. Saina.
When the three went to find out why they were fencing the land and erecting a temporary structure, they were attacked and left with deep cuts on their heads and other body parts seriously injured.
Kibet Saina’s right arm was broken in the attack.
“On reaching the spot to establish why the activity was going on, the guy claiming to be the land owner and the goons descended on us with pangas and rungus causing us grievous bodily harm,” Meshach Saina said.
After the attack, the three were taken to Endebess Police station by one of their close relative to make a formal complaint. They were then taken to Endebess Sub-County Hospital where their wounds were dressed and bandaged.
Micah Saina, the first-born son of the farmer and Isaiah Birech, said they were perturbed that even after recording statements, the accused and his goons are still roaming around freely.
“Our loved ones were issued with p3 forms and promised that the assailants would be arrested. So far, no action has been taken, instead, we believe the police coached the assailants to launch a complaint so that they qualify the case to be an affray. We believe beyond any reasonable doubt that the officers handling this case, including the OCS and the area DCI, have been compromised,” one of the brothers said while calling for the transfer of the said police officers.
A report of trespass was recorded under OB 38/06/2025.
Nandi elders address Kitale land row
The Nandi Gaa Kaburwo council of elders, led by Wilson Sing’oei (chairperson), William Tarus, and Elisha Busienei, condemned the incident and called for speedy action against the land grabber and his goons.
“It is common knowledge that land is not sold like mandazi. There is a very elaborate process of acquiring land in this country. We ask that this matter is taken seriously because it can breed chaos in the future which we don’t want,” Sing’oei said.
The elders further stated that they do not have confidence in the Endebess police station based on how the officers are handling the peace-threatening case.
“This leaves us with no choice but to believe that the officers involved in the case have been compromised. We therefore appeal that the area DCI and the OCS be sent away to prevent future occurrences of this nature,” urged the elders.
A junior police officer not authorised to speak to the press told Uasin Gishu News that the case is under investigation.
Mzee James Saina is a prominent farmer in Trans Nzoia County. He hosted President William Ruto, then minister of Agriculture and Raila Odinga when he was Prime minister at his farm during an agribusiness field day in 2010.
