Residents of Kasarani, KK, Segero and Kipkaren Settlements on Friday turned up in large numbers for public participation on project familiarisation and election of Settlement Executive Committee(SEC) members and Grevance Redress Committee (GRC).
This is in readiness for the upcoming projects under Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme (KISIP).
The four settlements are among those selected to benefit from the second phase of KISIP.
The settlements have been considered as beneficiaries of infrastructure development projects including road construction, sewer systems connectivity, drainage systems, high mast lighting and street lights in phase 2 of KISIP.
While addressing the wananchi of the settlements, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Anthony Sitienei urged them to place their priorities right.
He noted that such opportunities are rare.
Area Members of County Assembly (MCAs) Francis Muiya of Langas and Kipkenyo’s Daniel Letting were also in attendance.
They appreciated the programme’s interventions in their various wards.
Public participation exercise has been ongoing for the last few days.
Greenlight to KISIP Projects
On Wednesday, Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim gave a greenlight for the projects set to kick start in various Informal Settlements in Eldoret town.
Joining the residents of Ngomongo Settlement in Kimumu ward, Governor Bii said the planned infrastructural developments from the project that include, road tarmacking will increase transportation of fresh farm produce to Kimumu/Bahati market.
He further said the sewerage system to be installed will enhance the quality of livelihood through hygienic handling of liquid waste.
In addition, the high mast lights and street lights are set to jump-start a 24- hour economy to traders in the settlements.
Langas and Huruma are some of the Eldoret estates that benefited from the first phase of the KISIP program.
