The ongoing infrastructural improvement project in Chebiemit and Cheptongei informal settlements is progressing well.
The project includes the construction of roads and footpaths to improve accessibility and mobility, installation of a modern drainage system to reduce flooding and improve sanitation and provision of public lighting through streetlights and high-mast towers to enhance safety and security.
Construction of vending platforms at Chebiemit and Cheptongei informal settlements is also part of the project.

A team led by Eng. Christine Achieng from the National Project Coordination team, along with the County Project Coordination team led by Josphat Kerich, on Friday, September 12, 2025, conducted a routine monitoring and evaluation visit to the site. They confirmed that the works are on track.
Under Phase II of the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP2), mapping has been done for various settlements, including Bugar, Flax, Chebororwo, and others.
Tenure regularisation has already been completed for Kapcherop, Bugar, Tambach, and Kapsowar, with ownership documents pending issuance.

Multi-million Chepkorio Water Project
Meanwhile, the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet, North Rift Valley Water Works and the National Government have partnered on a multimillion-shilling water project in Chepkorio.
The Ksh 45 million project aims to improve access to clean water for over 2,000 households, neighbouring institutions in Chepkorio and surrounding villages.
The works include: Rehabilitation of Water Treatment Works and also Upgrading existing infrastructure for efficient water treatment.

The project is expected to be completed in 6 months’ time.
It will also include the construction of a Masonry Water Tank to store treated water, and the Installation 10km raising line and an 18km distribution line to deliver water to households.
The project promises to enhance the lives of residents by providing reliable as well as clean water, addressing a critical need in the community.
