The Department of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development is working with the Kenya Informal settlements Improvement Project (KISIP) to address land tenure in the Maili Nne settlement.
Director Lands and Housing Ms. Nelly Jerotich, while accompanying the KISIP team on fast-tracking and final follow-up on verification of lists in Maili Nne, emphasized the need to ensure that all those that own parcels of lands are genuine as the titles are set to be issued soon.
“We want to appreciate KISIP for the projects they are undertaking in the County. We are here to also assure the residents of this settlement that due processes will be followed in title allocation; this is why we have the area chief, elders, and the surveyor on-site,” noted Ms. Jerotich.
The county government of Uasin Gishu has also been working on issuing title deeds to locals living around Hill School – under the same program.
It is an initiative that started early in 2020, and there have been concerns over delays in the issuance of title deeds.
In a past meeting about the issue, the Uasin Gishu County Executive in charge of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development Eng Nelson Maritim said the title deeds will be issued once verification of landowners is done, in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands.
“The issuance of title deed will be done the soonest where due process, zoning regulations, and the law must be followed in the allocation,” said Eng. Maritim.
