Eldoret: Site Verification Exercise Paves Way For Community Development Projects in Kipkaren, Mwanzo

Residents of Kipkaren and Mwanzo settlements in Uasin Gishu County are set to benefit from a raft of Community Development Projects (CDPs) following a successful site verification exercise conducted by the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP) team in collaboration with consultants from Pamoja Trust.

The verification exercise, also involved officials from the County Government of Uasin Gishu.

During the visit, the experts walked the county team through detailed project designs, affirming that the initiatives would begin in September.

Which KISIP projects will be financed in Mwanzo and Kipkaren

Among the projects earmarked for Mwanzo settlement are the construction of a social hall, an ICT center, a child day care facility, market stalls, and a borehole. Kipkaren residents will benefit from a social hall, ICT center, day care facility, borehole, upgraded playground, and market stalls.

Speaking during the exercise, Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development, Mrs. Mary Kerich, commended the participatory process that has brought the projects to life.

These projects reflect the priorities identified by the community themselves. We are grateful for the cooperation we have received, and we are committed to ensuring their timely completion for the benefit of the residents,” she said.

Her sentiments were echoed by Director for Housing, Ms. Beatrice Menjo, who emphasized the impact of the facilities on livelihoods and social growth.

By providing amenities such as ICT centers, markets, and child care facilities, we are not only improving infrastructure but also empowering families economically and socially,” she noted.

Representatives from Pamoja Trust Ms. Veronica Koech, lauded the county for embracing collaboration throughout the project design phase.

Our role as consultants has been to facilitate co-designing of these projects with the communities. The inclusivity shown here ensures that what is built will serve the real needs of the people,” a representative remarked.

The projects are part of a broader agenda to uplift informal settlements by providing essential infrastructure and social amenities that foster economic opportunities, improve living standards, and enhance community cohesion.
