Aldai Constituency Member of Parliament Marianne Kitany has sought the support of the National Assembly Committee on Administration and Internal Security in establishing a police station in Kongoro to address rising insecurity in the area.
Appearing before the Committee chaired by MP Gabriel Tongoyo, Kitany cautioned that if the current situation is not addressed, it could escalate into a border conflict.
The legislator pointed out that Aldai, owing to its geographical positioning, has the longest border and therefore faces persistent security threats.
Are Nandi MPs helping improve police officers’ welfare?
The Committee’s Vice Chairperson (Rtd.) Col. Dido Rasso recalled the Committee’s inspection visit to Nandi County, where they interacted with Officers Commanding Station (OCSs) across several stations.
“From our inspection visit in Nandi County, we noted varied developments. From our engagements with the OCSs, some informed the Committee that their area MPs are not engaging them in matters of welfare, some officers are operating from cabins and uni-hats, while some police stations are built of mud. This informed our calling for candid discussion,” said MP Rasso.

Kitany acknowledged that considerable progress has been made infrastructure-wise in Aldai over the years, noting that through the NG-CDF kitty, one wing housing the Administration Police (AP) and the Chief’s office has already been completed, improving service delivery.
She appealed to the Committee to consider establishing an additional police station at Kapsengere, an area that borders Vihiga, Kisumu and Nandi Counties, citing heightened criminal activity.
“I am requesting that a police station be built here. I’m in the process of securing land for that. The crimes done in this area have become too much. We will also need an inter-border patrol to assist in inter-border crime,” Kitany said.
What security issues is the Kongoro area facing?
The MP also called for the Kongoro Police Station to be revamped and for the deployment of an anti-stock theft unit to curb rising livestock theft incidents between Muhoroni (Kisumu) and Aldai (Nandi).

In response, the committee chairperson advised the legislator to first secure the land for Kapsengere, but assured her of the Committee’s commitment to supporting the equipping and strengthening of the Kongoro Police Station.
The Committee also reviewed the National Police Service (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bill No. 39 of 2025), sponsored by MP Oku Kaunya.
