The National Assembly has reaffirmed Kenya’s growing partnership with the People’s Republic of China.
This was during a meeting chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Gladys Boss Shollei (Uasin Gishu) and a delegation led by Lu Xinshe, Member of the Standing Committee and Chairperson of the Environment and Resources Protection Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress of China.
The meeting focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation on environmental protection, climate action, renewable energy, sustainable mining, and natural resource management.

Departmental Committee on Environment, Forestry and Mining chaired by Vincent Musyoka deliberated on key legislative priorities in environmental conservation, climate resilience, sustainable resource management and avenues for deeper Kenya-China relations.
Discussions reflected Kenya’s commitment to building climate resilience while advancing President William Ruto’s national ambition of growing 15 billion trees by 2032, a flagship initiative aimed at restoring degraded landscapes, protecting water towers and increasing forest cover.
The leaders also exchanged perspectives on green investment, the circular economy and biodiversity conservation: priorities that continue to shape global environmental policy.

The meeting underscored the important role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering the exchange of legislative best practices and supporting practical solutions to shared environmental challenges, while reinforcing the longstanding friendship between Kenya and China in pursuit of sustainable development and shared prosperity.
