As we usher in the New Year – 2024 – we have several projects that Uasin Gishu locals should look out for.
These projects are expected to commence this year, with their completion also anticipated to be within a year.
Most of the projects are being jointly funded by the National government and the county government of Uasin Gishu.
Here are the multi-million projects to look out for this 2024
Eldoret 64 Market
Commissioning of the project which will cost an estimated Ksh6 billion is expected early this January. Already clearing of the current market where the new one will be constructed is ongoing.
A tender for the 64 Market project undertaken by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development was issued in December. The winner of the tender is expected to be unveiled during the commissioning that President William Ruto is expected to attend.

Governor Jonathan Bii in December 2023 said with all resources available, the market that is expected to accommodate at least 10,000 traders will be complete within a year.
Moiben Aggregation and Industrial Park
The National Government has committed to set up at least one aggregation and industrial park in each of the 47 devolved units.
In Uasin Gishu, the project will be set up in Moiben – where Governor Bii handed over the site – a 35-acre piece of land to the contractor in December 2023.
The government will allocate Ksh250 million for the project with the county allocating a similar amount.
Eldoret Railway City
This is part of the Kenya Railways projects that seek to revitalize the industry.
Eldoret is among the urban areas that the company has identified for the establishment of the Railway City alongside Nairobi.
The tender for the proposed Eldoret Railways City was issued in November 2023.
Affordable Housing Program
The project is already ongoing in the Kidiwa area in Soy Sub County. As of December 19, 2023, it was 8 percent complete.

Similar projects are also expected to be set up in the Kuinet/Kapsuswa ward as well as the Bondeni area.
Initially, it was anticipated that the housing projects in Uasin Gishu would cover at least 1,000 acres.
These projects will create job opportunities for the locals as well as enhance various sectors once they are complete.
