The family of Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago has been mourning for the last few days.
This followed the death of Mandago’s cousin brother Robert Kiptum.
According to the former Uasin Gishu Governor, Kiptum died of colon cancer.
The disease, the Senator said, was discovered while at an advanced stage.

In a statement, Mandago said his cousin brother was laid to rest on Saturday.
He described him as a hardworking man and a strict Christian.
“Today, we laid to rest our Cousin brother Robert Kiptum Kemboi arap Chirchir. The late Robert died last week after a battle with colon cancer, a condition we discovered a bit late,” Mandago said in a statement.
“We mourn a hardworking man, a very strict Christian and above all a community champion,” he added.
The late was laid to rest at his Kapsaos home on Turbo Constituency, Uasin Gishu County.

Laikipia Deputy Governor Reuben Kamuri and MCAs Isaac Samoei (Kapsaos) as well as Tarakwa’s Thomas Kipyego were among leaders also present.
What is Colon cancer?
Colorectal cancer also known as Colon cancer is a type of cancer that affects the colon (large intestine) or rectum.
It is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide. It can cause severe harm and death.
The risk of colorectal cancer increases with age. Most cases affect people over 50 years old.
Common symptoms include diarrhoea, constipation, blood in the stool, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, and low iron levels.
How to reduce risk of Colon cancer
Many people will not have symptoms in the early stages of the disease.
The risk of colorectal cancer can be reduced by eating a healthy diet, staying physically active, not smoking tobacco and limiting alcohol. Regular screenings are crucial for early detection.
