Learners who did not get favourable placement to senior schools in the recently concluded exercise are set to get a second chance.
The Ministry of Education has announced that it will provide for a seven-day window where the learners unhappy with schools they have been placed can apply afresh.
In a statement on Sunday, December 21, 2025, Basic Education Prof Julius Bitok however said the revision will be based on available schools.
He insisted that placement will remain automated.
“The Ministry will open a seven-day review of senior school choices on Tuesday, December 23rd. Candidates are advised to contact their Grade 9 schools or the Ministry of Education Sub- County and County offices to take advantage of this window through their respective heads of institutions,” Prof Bitok said.

“The review will be guided by an automated system that will match preferences to learners’ performance and the availability of slots in schools,” he added.
There has been concerns from parents over the placement results.
The PS admitted the challenges they have faced being the first time the learners were transitioning to senior school but assured the placement was based on merit.
“We are dedicated to making the placement process as transparent, fair, and satisfactory as possible while taking into account learners’ preferences and the capacities and available pathways in respective schools,” Bitok said.
More than 1.13 million students sat form the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assesment (KJSEA) and will be transitioning to senior schools.
Each learner selected a preferred schools based on three pathways: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences, and Arts and Sports.
Placement is to four category of schools – C1 to C4.
