A teacher at Naiberi Secondary School has asked road users to be cautious as schools reopen after a midterm break.
Learners across the country are expected to return to school this week after a week’s break.
With road accidents usually happening as learners travel back to school, teacher Ken Arusei has called for caution amongst motorists, pedestrians, cyclists as well as school transport operators.
“Slow down near school zones, respect pedestrian crossings, and stay alert to the presence of young learners,” Arusei said.
He also asked parents and guardians to remind children about the basic road safety practices — from using footbridges to waiting for a complete stop before crossing the road.
“A few seconds of care can save a lifetime of regret,” he said.
Meanwhile, Arusei hailed all teachers who are set to retire after several years of service.

It is estimated that over 10,282 teachers across the country will be going on retirement from July 1, 2025.
“Your service, your sacrifice, and your legacy will not be forgotten,” the teacher told those retiring.
“You leave behind footprints of inspiration in the sands of time. As you transition into this new chapter, may it be filled with peace, pride, and purpose. You have indeed run the race and run it well — we celebrate you,” he added.
He however called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to expedite the advertisement and replacement of vacant teaching positions left by the retiring educators.
According to teacher Arusei, timely action will ensure continuity in teaching and learning, preventing any disruption to the quality of education in affected schools.
