Nandi Moves Closer to Issuing Land Ownership Documents in Six Settlements

Residents of six informal settlements in Nandi County are a step closer to securing land ownership documents following the launch of a ground verification exercise under the Second Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project (KISIP II).

The exercise, which targets Kaptumo, Kabiyet, Ollesos, Baraton, Kemeloi and Kaiboi settlements, is expected to pave the way for the issuance of letters of allotment and, ultimately, title deeds to eligible beneficiaries.

The verification process comes after the completion of planning and surveying works in the six settlements. Relevant documents have already been submitted to the National Land Commission (NLC) for the preparation of letters of allotment.

Nandi County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Hillary Serem met officials from the National Land Commission and KISIP II ahead of the exercise.

According to county officials, the verification will assess the accuracy of beneficiary lists, approved settlement plans and Registry Index Maps against the current situation on the ground.

The exercise will also involve confirming beneficiary details and parcel identification while addressing any discrepancies that may arise before the allotment and land titling process begins.

Speaking during the meeting, Serem urged residents of the affected settlements to participate actively in the exercise to help validate beneficiary information and facilitate a smooth transition to the next phase of the programme.

He further said the county government would continue working with national government agencies and development partners to enhance land tenure security and improve access to formal land ownership documents.
