The County Government of Uasin Gishu has successfully completed the Mwamba Water Project in Kapkures, Soy Sub-County.
This marks a significant achievement under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action Program (FLLoCA).
The project, designed to improve water access for local residents, has introduced key infrastructure improvements at the Mwamba water spring.
Climate Change Unit Officer for Soy Sub-County Eng. Christopher Mbevi, along with Soy Water Engineer Benadys Chelagat and Design Engineer Celestine Kigen, confirmed that the project’s objectives were fully met.
What Mwamba Water Project involved
The scope of work included the construction of a masonry sump tank with a 50,000-liter capacity, fencing around the spring, establishment of two community water points, planting of indigenous trees, and the construction of a cattle water trough.
These efforts aim to safeguard and maintain the cleanliness of the water source for local residents.
The fencing has already been completed, the sump tank is in place, and the finishes have been carried out with exceptional quality.
Additionally, indigenous trees have been planted around the spring, with the community designating a member to ensure daily watering of the trees until they flourish during the rainy season.

Local residents, who have closely observed the final stages of construction, expressed their gratitude for the 50,000-liter water tank and the high standard of workmanship.
Eng. Mbevi, while assessing the project’s completion, also praised the execution of the works.
“The implementation of this project has been excellent, and we now urge the community to protect the spring for future generations. This initiative will serve as a catalyst for further community development, enhancing both the quality of life and the overall well-being of residents in the area,” noted Eng. Mbevi.
